The KM8 space environment simulator of China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science & Technology Corporation (CASC), formally completed its commissioning the other day, which marked the completion of the Tianjin Large Spacecraft AIT Center construction.

Tianjin Large Spacecraft AIT Center will be the major site for the assembly, integration and testing of China’s new generation large spacecraft. The AIT of China’s new generation large spacecraft including the space station will be performed here.

The building area of the AIT Center is about 100,000 square meters. It will be the world’s largest spacecraft AIT center after acceptance. The KM8, with a diameter of 17 meters and a height of 35 meters, is Asia’s largest and world’s third largest space environment simulator, the capacity of the electric vibration test system ranks top in the world; the center is equipped with the acoustic test facility of 4000 cube meters, with a sound pressure level of 156 decibel.

According to the plan, China’s space station will be completed around the year of 2020. At present, part of its assembly and test work is being performed steadily in this AIT center.
