China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and Shenzhen municipal government in Guangdong Province of China has signed the cooperation agreement on the High Throughput Broadband Satellite (HTS) program, which marks the initiation of China’s first HTS broadband telecommunications system.

According to the agreement, the first HTS broadband satellite is expected to be launched in the end of 2018, and starting its satellite telecommunications operation services in the year of 2019. China is planning to send another two HTS satellites in the late year during the 13th Five Year Plan between 2016 to 2020, to serve Americas, Europe and Africa, and to form an all-weather, secure, reliable and independently controllable global broadband satellite telecommunications system.
